Make a Unique Birth Announcement

I'm always in the search for a different and unique birth announcement idea. Especially now since I happen to have a new baby due in a couple months. This birth announcement idea is both unique and super easy if combined with the use of baby handprint crafts. You could even use a baby footprint instead. Or both!

Here's what you'll need:

  • a plain baby onesie

  • some fabric paint

  • your camera

  • safe natural ink or finger paints

  • card stock

OK, this really is easy, but to make these birth announcements you'll need to do a bit of planning ahead of time.

Make sure and pack a plain baby onesie (duh, like you wouldn't anyway ) as well as a couple of little bottles of fabric paint with you in your hospital bag. The reason you will be packing these things is because the actual birth announcement will be on the baby onesie. Well, at least the wording will be. :)

After your baby is born use the fabric paint to write the baby's weight, length, birth date and time, all on the baby onesie. After it dries you can dress the baby in the onesie and take pictures of him/her. These will be the pictures for the birth announcement!

After you have printed out the photos you can make unique birth announcement cards with them. Start by cutting some ordinary card stock in half or quarters, depending on how big you want the to be. You can even fold the card stock and make them into greeting style cards.

Attach the photos to the card stock with some photo corners or adhesive. Now comes the baby handprint crafts part. Embellish the announcements with the baby's handprint. You can make colorful handprints by using finger paints instead of regular old black ink. You'll have really cute and unique birth announcements that are easy to make!

More Tips for Making These Unique Birth Announcements

  • You'll need to add the baby's name to the announcements. Either write the name on the onesie along with the rest of the info, or have the name printed onto the top of the card stock. You can also simply paint the name on with the finger print to give it a crafty look.

  • To get the wording onto the baby onesie in cleaner crisper looking way, have Dad go home and print the info onto iron-on transfer paper. Then just iron the stats onto the onesie and take a picture. A good offset would be to use baby handprint crafts on the onesie along with the printed words and simply send the photos out as birth announcements.

As of now there are no pictures to go with this page because I really wanted the pictures to be authentic creations by me. Well, my baby isn't due to be born for a couple more months. But when he is, be assured I'll add my pictures! In the meantime, feel free to add your own! I'd love to see them, or any of your unique birth announcement ideas for that matter!
