Dots, flowers,and stripes,on a cosy, covering bedsheet.
by Mrs Poornima Masoorkar
How lovely are my flowers. I made a lot of covering bedsheets for my newborn grandson, to take care of changing seasons. This one was 125 cms x 90 cms in size. All cloth used was measured cotton. The bed sheet has been designed combining dots and stripes. The portion with the small dot is of the smallest length, followed by the striped portion being the longest, and the cloth with the larger dots placed at the lower end. After joining the three panels, I have designed a flower pot on the center panel and stitched a dark pink ric-rac lace on its edge. The flowers(two) are three layered fabrics, with the outer most layer made from a 4" broad white satin ribbon, then the striped printed cloth and the smaller polka dot printed cloth. The cloth used to make the flowers was cut of different widths and thread pulled out from the outer edges to give a frayed look. The three panels making the flowers were gathered individually at their inner edege, and stiched at the open sides to form rings. These rings were placed on top of each other and fastened with a big dark pink matching button. After this the whole bed sheet was lined underneath by a soft white muslin cloth to keep the baby soft and cozy. Then I made a pillow cover to match. And there was the bed sheet of dots and stripes and all things nice.
