Homemade Paint

I like to use homemade paint when starting babies out with their first ventures with arts and crafts. Here are some great fingerpaint recipes to use when introducing your baby or toddler to their first painting activities. Chances are they will probably put it in their mouths, but at east it is 100% natural and edible (just may not taste so great).

Super Easy Finger Paint recipe

  • 2 cups white flower

  • 2 cups cold water

  • food coloring

Pour water into a large mixing bowl. Start slowly adding flour to the water while stirring. Keep adding the flour and stirring until the ingredients are fully mixed together. Separate portions to empty baby food jars or other containers and add food coloring to each to make different colors. Get to work on some great baby paintings, baby handprint crafts, or other baby artworks!

Homemade Paint and Finger Paint Recipe

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch

  • 3 tbsp sugar

  • 1/2 tbsp salt

  • 2 cups cold water

  • food coloring

Mix all the ingredients together and pour into a medium sized sauce pan. Cook the mixture over low heat for about 15 minutes until it becomes smooth and thick. Once the finger paint has thickened remove it from the heat and let it cool.
Once it is cool you can divide the homemade paint into separate containers (empty baby food jars are a great place to store it). Add food coloring to them to make different colors! You are ready to start your baby and toddler art projects!

Cornstarch Paint

  • 3 cups water

  • 1 cup cornstarch

  • food coloring

Dissolve cornstarch in a bowl with a little bit of the water. Bring the remaining water to a boil in a medium sized saucepan. Remove from heat and add the cornstarch mixture. Return the saucepan to medium heat, stirring constantly. Boil the mixture until until it is clear and thick. This takes about 1 minute. Remove from heat.
While the paint is cooling divide it into separate containers or empty baby food jars. add food coloring to make different colors.

    Edible Fingerpaint

    • Instant Vanilla Pudding

    • food coloring

OK this one is soooo easy but really fun for babies and toddlers! Just mix the pudding according to directions on the box. Divide the pudding to separaet containers and add food coloring to make different colors. Viola!
