If you can find the time, sewing baby stuff can save you money, reduce stress (yes sewing really does do this!), and enable you to create a perfectly customized and one-of-a-kind wardrobe for your little one.
For me it all started when I was carrying my first baby (a girl!) and spent a lot of my down time shopping for bargains on baby clothing and layette. But I had a problem. The clothing that was inexpensive I found I just plain didn't like. And the pieces that I liked cost a fortune. I would look at tags and realize that it really wouldn't be too hard for me to just go home and make it myself! And I could make it at a fraction of the price.
I saved money by buying plain and inexpensive pieces, or buying onesies in bulk. I bought at second hand stores and altered items by adding my own personal touches like new buttons, lace, ruffles, and more. I even upcycled old clothing into something new and modern, or turned some of my old clothes into cute new baby clothes.
What I found was that I saved a bunch of money and still had clothes for my baby that I adored. I constantly received compliments on the unqiue pieces my baby was wearing. And I was a calmer happier Momma for spending some "me" time being creative.
I want to share with you my tips and ideas for creating cute personalized baby frocks. I want to share my upcycling and recycling projects, and even some of the patterns I created for easy baby clothes sewing projects.
Altering Baby Clothes
There are many ways to customize your baby's clothing without the use of a sewing machine, knitting or crocheting. Here's how you can change ordinary boring clothing like plain onesies and bottoms into unique and stylish baby clothes, and not break the bank.

Here's a regular old baby kimono onesie That I added a little bit of hand sewn embellishment to. Just a couple cute little accents really does make a big difference. This project was really easy and took under an hour to finish.
